  • Highlights: A rare, fine-textured rosewood, known for its deep violet-brown to purplish coloration streaked with darker lines; prized historically for royal furniture and decorative arts.
  • Form: Available mainly as small logs, billets, turning blanks, and veneers (large boards are rare due to tree size).
  • Grade: Premium/select only (valued for figure and color uniformity).
  • Moisture: Kiln-dried or air-dried, typically MC (6 – 12%).

  • Grain: Straight to slightly interlocked; very fine, even texture with high natural luster.
  • Color: Rich violet-brown to purplish hues with darker black streaks; color deepens with age and polishing.
  • Water Resistance: Good – naturally oily and dense, with strong resistance to moisture.
  • Certification: CITES Appendix II (restricted trade); FSC® certification available only through limited suppliers.
  • Outdoor Suitability: Not recommended – rare and costly, generally reserved for fine interior applications.
