Marble Wood

  • Species: Belongs to the Dialium spp. (family Fabaceae).
  • Origin: South America (Brazil, Suriname, Guyana); also, parts of Central America.
  • Durability: High — naturally resistant to wear and decay.
  • Highlights: Distinctive marbled striping, very dense hardwood, excellent polish and finish, premium exotic appearance.
  • Form: Solid lumber boards, turning blanks, slabs, veneers (limited availability).
  • Grade: Select & Better, FAS, Premium / Export Grade.
  • Moisture: Kiln-dried (KD) (8 – 12%) for interior use.
  • Dimensions Available: Thickness = 25 mm to 50 mm (custom thicknesses on request) / Width = 100 mm to 300 mm+ / Length = 1.8 m to 4.5 m.
  • Janka Hardness: Approx. ~1,780 lbf (≈ 7,900 N).
  • Grain: Straight to interlocked; fine to medium texture.
  • Color: Golden yellow to light brown heartwood with dramatic dark brown to black streaks; high contrast “marble-like” figure.
  • Water Resistance: Moderate to good; performs well indoors when sealed, not recommended for constant moisture exposure.
  • Certification: FSC® certified options may be available depending on source.
  • Outdoor Suitability: Limited — not recommended for exterior use without heavy treatment and protection.
  • Indoor Suitability: Excellent — ideal for decorative and high-end interior applications.
